The History Zone Installation stands proudly as three interactive towers. Low tech, hands on and high tech, touch screen elements show viewers the rich heritage of Preston’s disabled people. This website gives a flavour of the towers and shares some of the information they contain.

“The project has been a really useful vehicle to document the heritage of a group of individuals who don’t always get heard. The research and stories are presented in an accessible way which will make a difference to how people learn about disabled people and how everyone can make a difference in the future. An exciting addition to this project is that schools, museums and other interested organisations will be able to borrow elements of the installation which will enable a much wider audience to learn about this important part of our shared heritage.” Christine Stringfellow, Project Manager, Prescap
"This project will give people an historical insight as to how disability has been socially constructed and indeed how society has built up a wall of barriers for disabled people. The aim of the project is to raise awareness and help break down the barriers that disabled people face on a daily basis, and this includes stereotypical attitudes, inaccessible buildings, information and transport.” Lesley Jones, Team Leader, Moor Lane Resource Centre
The History Zone has been made possible with funding from “The Heritage Lottery Fund”, which distributes grants to a wide range of projects involving the local, regional and national heritage of the United Kingdom.
The History Zone installation was launched on Wednesday, 3rd December to coincide with the International Day of Disabled People.
Facilitated by Prescap.
